5 Card Stud Strategy Tips

Five card stud is the poker variant, which is the parent game from which the seven card stud poker evolved.

Five card was pretty famous during the American civil war; however, as time progressed and seven stud evolved, it lost its fame.

This game is seeing a regain in popularity.

Five card stud and seven card stud are lot similar.

The difference between the two games stays with the point that in five cards stud a player will have to form a five cards hand from the five cards, therefore there is no option to decide on choosing the best 5 cards for the hand like in seven cards stud where players can decide on their best five card hand out of the seven cards there in.

In a Five cards stud game in the online poker room, the basic game is as follows in the online poker room:

1.  Ante

• Every player participating in the game makes the ante.

2. First Dealing

• 1 down card followed by 1 card face up for each player.

The player with the lowest ranking card in the face up card makes bring in if it is a bring in game; in cases of similar ranks, suit ranking is used (or) the player first when counted from the dealer makes the bet.

(or)

If there is no bring in then the player with the highest card makes the betting. (They can check if they prefer) or in case of similar ranks, suit ranking is used (or) the player first when counted from the dealer makes the bet.

3.  First Betting Round

• In the First Betting round, the players can decide between calling the bring in, or raising to the lower limit and completing the betting or they can fold. Each of the betting round is restricted to 3 re-raises. After the betting round is completed, a next street card is dealt.

4.  Third Street Dealing

• Third Street face up card to each player, the player with the best high ranking hand from the up cards makes the first betting.

Street numbers refer to the number of cards in the players hands example: 3 cards in players hand therefore third street.

5. Third Street Betting round

• In the Third Street Betting round, the players can decide between calling or raising and completing the betting or they can fold. Each of the betting round is restricted to 3 re-raises. After the betting round is completed, a new street card is dealt.

6.  Fourth Street Dealing

• Fourth Street up card, the player with the best high ranking hand from the up cards make the betting.  From this round the player who is making the first betting can choose to check.

7. Fourth Street Betting Round

• In the Fourth Street Betting round, the players can decide between calling or raising and completing the betting or they can fold. Each of the betting round is restricted to 3 re-raises.

After the betting round is completed, a new street card is dealt.

8.  Fifth Street Dealing

• Fifth Street up card, the player with the best high ranking hand from the up cards make the betting.  In this round the player who is making the first betting can choose to check.

9.  Fifth Street Betting Round

• Fifth Street betting round if there are more than one player still heads up.

10. Showdown

• Showdown. The best five card poker hand makes the winning.
